Question & Answer
Chatting and talking with one you wish to marry.

Assalama'lykum, there's one brother that we used to chat and talk on phone(not quite long) he told me that he's pleased with my religion and in love with me and he'l not hesitate to seek my hand in marriage if i'm also pleased. I've done istikhara though because i'm also pleased with his religion. Is this a right way or forbidden in islam since we were chatting/taking before he could tell how he feels about me?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

Dear sister, if you are pleased with his character and Deen, then you should talk to your family and send a marriage proposal to him. This is the appropate way. Islam under no circumstances does allow two non-mehram to chat or talk to each other privately.

Narrated byUmar ibn al-Khattab The Prophet (saws) said, "Whenever a man is alone with a woman, the Shaitaan is the third." Al-Tirmidhi[Vol. 4, Book 7, Hadith 2165 / Arabic: Book 33, Hadith 2318]

So when a non mehram man and a women are involved in vain chatting the shaitan is the third one joining them, The role of the Shaitan is merely to incite, inspire, and with flowery and colorful words invite one towards the transgression of the Boundaries of the Lord, and make their evil deeds fair-seeming to them. That is why Allah has cautioned us regarding Shaitan and has declared him as our open enemy.

Allah Says in the glorious Quran: Verily the Shaytaan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his adherents that they may become companions of the Blazing Fire! QURAN[35:6]

And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
